Greetings
Hi there, and welcome! I’m Joel Thomas, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) and National Certified Counselor (NCC). The feelings of being stuck where we are at, life not headed where you expected and general unease about the future are all natural and can be confused to manage on your own. As a therapist, my job is to help navigate the confusing roads of life and offer methods to help take it on your terms. I take a relaxed and down-to-earth approach to counseling, meeting you where you are and walking alongside you as we explore what’s going on beneath the surface.
Therapy Style
I work from an Existential Humanistic perspective, which means I focus on life’s deeper questions—things like identity, the whys of life, and its meanings—while helping you stay grounded in the present moment. My style is centered around helping you better understand your experiences, develop self-compassion, and explore what truly matters to you.
I also draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), which means we’ll often explore the different “parts” of yourself, learning how to approach them with curiosity and kindness, not just towards the parts, but yourself overall. My goal isn’t to “fix” you, because I don’t believe you’re broken. Instead, I’m here to help you untangle what feels stuck, heal emotional wounds, and grow in ways that feel authentic and sustainable.
What to Expect in Session
Our first session is all about getting to know you. We’ll start by discussing what’s brought you to therapy, what you hope to gain from it, and any concerns you may have about therapy.
Every session is client-led, meaning you can expect a collaborative, laid-back environment where you’re free to be your full self, I’ll ask thoughtful questions, offer reflections, and occasionally bring in tools or techniques to help deepen your insight—but ultimately, this is your time and your space and I am here to follow you as you go about this road to positive growth and healing.
